Artistic Licence

We woke on Friday morning to discover the bland brick wall opposite our driveway had gained some “artwork”, though some may also call it graffiti. While it isn’t quite what I would have liked to see on the wall, it is lively and brightens the wall somewhat:

This week has also been the conclusion of us watching the second series of The Twelve. We enjoyed it as much as the first series. Wednesday evening was a new experience for us at the quiz. It was just Nicky, Mike and I. John had taken Danny down to Wellington for an eye operation, so we were without our two prime members. However, we came 14th with 89 points. I’m not sure how we managed that as by my reckoning we only got 77, but maybe the quiz master took sympathy on us and just awarded some extra points here and there. We were stunned to score 7 out of 10 on the Sport round as the questions just fell right for Mike and I. On the Music round we scored 2, which was 2 more than we expected, since it usually questions very recent music.

Frances called in late Tuesday afternoon, not long after Nicky had returned from Home Group. She has also not been well, but with a balance problem, not the virus from which we are still recovering. Our recovery has been sufficient for us to have our delayed dinner over at Krystyna and Mark’s home last night, which we enjoyed as much as usual. It was also good to see their “Phase 1” renovations complete in the kitchen, lounge and snug.

Our health has improved sufficiently for us to play a little Mah Jong and Rummy-O this week. A jigsaw of a lovely image of Venice has also kept us busy, even when it wasn’t raining:

On Friday Nicky received an Auckland University Medical email regarding the osteoporosis study in which she participated. It started about 11 years ago, and they have arranged some presentations of their findings and have invited the participants to attend. The presentations are happening in Auckland Medical School, so we discussed a number of travel scenarios, finally settling on flying from Whanganui to Auckland. Nicky will stay with her sister Stella, who she has been wanting to see ever since Stella was very ill at the beginning of the year.

Sailing on the Waimarie paddle steamer was good yesterday - it was cool but sunny. Today we had some significant rain towards the end of the trip which wasn’t fun. At the same time Nicky was walking up to church after parking the car at the wharf. Today’s combined service of all eight church congregations across Whanganui, was scheduled for a late 1p.m. start. A sausage sizzle lunch before Holy Communion, followed by an EGM which went very well. She could have done with gumboots instead of shoes, but hopefully her feet were not wet long enough to develop trench foot.

Take care, Rick and Nicky.
