We are on the map
Internationally recognised at last. We, as in Whanganui, were the subject of a question on The Chase this week. The popularity of the programme here in Aotearoa has not gone unnoticed by its producers. More and more Kiwi orientated questions are been asked. This one was about the language from which the place name Whanganui is derived. Bradley might have made mince meat of the pronunciation, but the subject of the question was noticed by us, and locals alike. It was even a topic of discussion in the mess room at work! Brilliant.
It has been quite a routine week for us, again with much enjoyable autumn weather. On Tuesday Nicky had lunch with Home Group at Devine, the café in the Summerset retirement village complex, which she enjoyed. She filled in for Rosemary on the hospital visiting roster on Wednesday morning, and then attended Peter Cameron’s funeral in the afternoon. He was a very popular and long-serving member of the Whanganui Anglicans congregations. We came fourth at the quiz with 89 points in the evening.
I have done some grass cutting in the back garden and the berm, and some weeding in the haha. A bit of MacOnSite work has been squeezed in along with four sailings. There was so much debris in the river today the skipper decided he should do the majority of the steering. None of us complained.
After Nicky returned from the library on Thursday (four borrowers) we had a very enjoyable pot of tea in the sunshine on bench #1 in the back garden. Being able to enjoy the garden makes all the effort worthwhile.
On Saturday we invited Mike (fellow deckhand on the boat) over for dinner prior to the rest of the quiz team coming over for the evening. I had put together a musical introductions quiz and then we played an edition of Trivial Pursuit that was new to them. It was a very enjoyable evening. Danny and Mel brought their youngest with them. Charlotte started walking about a week ago and she woke up not long before we drew the evening to a close. Charlotte enjoyed wobbling around our home. The mugs on the peninsular island shelves were at just the right height for her, and very enticing.
Mrs. Brenda Fortnum, a succulent given to us by Jancis, continues the thrive by our front door:
It is very good to have these reminders of the important people in our lives.
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
