Emergency Bunnies
We had a very enjoyable visit from Jan and John Clearwater this week. Our friends from Blockhouse Bay were having a couple of nights in Whanganui whilst in this part of the country. They came round for dinner on Wednesday evening so we had plenty of time to catch up. They also said very nice things about our home, which they had seen develop via my emailed newsletters. On Friday morning they came for a cruise on the paddle steamer so I was able to have a little more time with them on the Waimarie.
Tuesdays have been my day off since the beginning of the year, and my regular Tuesday supermarket shop has now become a main weekly shop. With Easter approaching, hot cross buns (known as bunnies in our household) became available in the supermarket and a packet would work its way into the trolley each week. A pot of tea with warmed bunnies (and sometimes The N.Z. Listener crossword) has become a regular event when Nicky returns home from Life Group. This Tuesday we both went into town to investigate clocks in Briscoes and get some salt for the water softener from Mitre 10. The supermarket was next stop on this list, but imagine our joint consternation when we discovered NO hot cross buns!!! We were not the only hot cross shoppers either. The shopping was completed with much under-the-breath-muttering. On my way home from work on Wednesday, I returned to the supermarket and found bunnies a-plenty, so I purchased two packets so that we can keep one in the freezer as an emergency supply.
We have had some rain this week, but clear crisp starts and sunny days are still prevalent. Added to Nicky’s usual outings and commitments this week was a funeral on Wednesday. This was for the husband of one of her fellow parishioners and was very well attended.
My sailing schedule has been a little different. On both Tuesday and Wednesday we did two 1-hour sailings for groups of around 60 pupils from a local primary school. As you can image, this presented a range of different challenges. Yesterday our two normal sailings were both very busy, and the second one had a large number of people with mobility issues which presented some difficulties. Today we had two sailings again, the second being a charter for a small group of people with a range of disabilities. This was the first time we had taken dogs on the boat this season, and one of them did not like the stairs. It was another different cruise experience.
While the grass needs cutting again, the garden is flourishing, so here are a couple of pictures I took in the back garden while bringing in the laundry on Friday:
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
