Still mild
The weather has been unseasonably warm again this week, so we have continued taking advantage of it as much as possible. Afternoon tea has been our last al fresco event of the day. We continue to enjoy watching the trees move into their autumn colours:
We had a very brief shower on Monday, but other than that, it has been dry, so Nicky has done quite a bit of watering in the garden. She has also continued planting in the bed south of the retaining wall:
I have had some MacOnSite work this week, and began to feel that I am finally starting to get over my cold. Nicky has also been feeling improved. After Life Group on Tuesday, she went to see the new Downton Abby film with Frances. They followed this by a late dinner of omelettes produced by me. They both really enjoyed the film, and Nicky would happily see it again.
Nicky had a woking bee at St. John’s church on Wednesday morning. I started making a venison cobbler (Nicky had spotted some venison on special offer at $9.99 per kg at a supermarket over in Gonville). It turned out very well when I finished it later in the day.
As I was feeling brighter I cleaned the windows on Thursday. I had a go at some of the high ones on the north end of the living area, but have concluded that I really need a squeegee with a long handle to do a better job of them.
Nicky started to have some abdominal pain during the day on Friday, which became excruciating in the evening. This didn’t stop her enjoying the film Bohemian Rhapsody, which I had recorded a little while ago. She was still in pain on Saturday morning, which warranted a visit to the Whanganui Accident and Medical Unit at Whanganui hospital on Saturday morning. The doctor suspected diverticulitis and prescribed antibiotics and pain killers, and though the later has helped, it’s still early days and the drugs are making her feel a bit woozy.
I made some walnut bread and pumpkin, carrot and kumera soup for tea. We then settled down with the telly to watch a two part four hour drama called Our House (a UK production). I had to finish watching it today as I was too tired to get all the way through the second episode.
This morning, Mother’s Day here, while tidying up after making lemon curd, I heard a thud against the kitchen window. When I went outside a saw a kingfisher stilling on the path, looking rather stunned. It stayed there for about 30 minutes, and apart from taking a quick picture I left it in peace as I din’t want to traumatise it any further:
We have had a quiet day, a good chat with Claire, and started a jigsaw when the temperature started to drop this afternoon.
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
