RATs
Nicky started the week still feeling under the weather and using a Rapid Antigen Test to check for Covid for the first few days, but they all came out negative. As the week has progressed, she has improved and returned to planting and weeding in the garden. She was feeling well enough by Wednesday to help Joy at St. John’s, and clean the church brass. There is quite a bit of it apparently.
After doing a bit of shopping on Monday morning I ordered a cubic metre of scoria from our local landscape supplier on my way home. It was delivered in the afternoon and I got the first layer into the retaining wall. On Tuesday I installed the draining pipe with Nicky’s assistance, and then set about wheelbarrowing the rest of the scoria into the wall. I finished it off with the first of three layers of backfill.
By the end of the day my knees and back were complaining considerably. I enjoyed sitting in the cinema for two and a half hours watching Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. This was OK, but not as good as the two previous films in this series.
During the rest of the week, I undertook gentler tasks and enjoyed the sunny weather. Nicky was in church on Thursday evening for the Maundy foot washing service and on Good Friday for a morning service. Afterwards she started to make a Simnel Cake. We had a long FaceTime chat with Jancis to catch up and provide some technical support. Nicky was up early on Saturday morning making bread before we drove up to Paul and Jenny’s in Auckland. Our journey was uneventful and we received a very warm welcome from P&J, and a lovely dinner.
Today Nicky went to church with P&J whilst I went into town to do a job from one of my MacOnSite customers. Paul brought Nicky into town in the afternoon so the we could visit Maria in her new apartment. It is very neat with brilliant views across town and harbour. It was great to see her again.
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
