Birthday Week

Most of this week has been spent in the garage, as we start to sort out what we take with us when we move, and of what we dispose and how we dispose of it. Quite a few things are items that we brought with us for when we next owned a home. However, 13 years on our tastes and requirements have changed, so disposal reflects our downsizing. Much of the sorting has been through the books which Nicky has found quite difficult, but has been very good at making selections.

I haven’t helped as much as I had planned with the garage.  This is due to my having a busy week with work.  It has been good to earn some money and I have now closed MacOnSite for Christmas.

Nicky had a Christmas lunch with Blockhouse Bay Seniors on Monday. On Tuesday we were taken out for lunch at Deco in Titirangi by Kelly and Valera from my Deep & Meaningful MeetUp group. Afterwards we had wander along the beach at Cornwallis. Both events were greatly enjoyed.

What with the garage and being busy, it has been good to finish the week with birthdays. We didn’t actually do anything on Friday to celebrate Claire’s 32nd birthday, but we did have a good chat with her on the phone. For Nicky’s 67th birthday we went into town to the art gallery to have a tour, see the major contemporary Maori artists exhibition based on the creation myths, and to have lunch. We are not great ones for photographing our food, but Nicky was so impressed with the presentation of her mandarin and goats cheese salad, and my salmon and onion bagels, that the phone camera was pressed into action.

Steve and Ros came over for Scrabble late afternoon, and Stella called in on her way home from a trip to Wellington for Lucy’s capping for her Masters degree.

On the house front, we had two exciting developments on Friday. Mary Manton came round with the quilt that the ladies of the Blockhouse Bay Quilting Circle have made for us as a leaving gift. It is absolutely brilliant, lovely to look at, full of detail, and tells a great story. We also received photos from Richard Landers who has designed, made, and now installed, our stained glass windows.

We are absolutely thrilled with them, but were only able to afford them was due to the legacy that Mum left me when she died, a year ago today.

We had a chat with Bert the Project Manager on Wednesday, and things are progressing, but we are still not convinced that we will have the handover before Christmas. There still seems to be much to do.

Take care, Rick
