Walking tours

I thought I was getting fatter, but apparently I’m not - it’s just Covid Kilos. Presumably when Covid has gone the Kilo’s will too! Here’s hoping.

We have had quite a quiet week, but the weather has been ringing the changes. We started with the tail end of a storm, very wet overnight Monday, quite windy, chilly temperatures (snow down south), and have finished the week wearing shorts and warm sunshine, though there is a chill to the breeze today that we didn’t have yesterday.

Our highlights for the week have been Heritage Festival tours. On Tuesday we had a breezy walk round some of the Maori public art in the CBD. Some of this we had not seen before so that was a treat, and we enjoyed again the pieces which we have previously encountered. One which I particularly liked had hidden pathways of railway sleepers through lush planting:

We had a slow journey home as the train was stationary for 25 minutes due to “electric power cut shortages”. I don’t think English was the train managers’ first language, and The Chase had already started by the time we had the kettle on.

On Thursday we had a guided tour of the Cathedral of St. Patrick & St. Joseph in town, and found its history and relationship with the community interesting. We had morning tea and scones in the sunshine at a nearby café afterwards (supporting the local economy).

Nicky also had Holy Communion on Wednesday, followed by the entire congregation having morning tea up in The Bay afterwards! I think there were around 15 of them.

I have only done one remote support call this week, but I have enjoyed reading Troubled Blood while watching the laundry dry.

Whatever bug Nicky had recently I think I now have, so we haven’t done any Heritage things this weekend. Nicky Scrabbled at Stella’s yesterday, and was off to church today for the first time in ages for a Sunday service. I did a Wallace and Gromit jigsaw yesterday which was quite interesting as the picture on the jigsaw is subtly different from the picture on the box.

We have had pancake stacks for tea, which were great, especially the bacon!

Take care, Rick
