Taking the air a little
We have had another week of cool/chilly starts and finishes, with lovely clear skies and warm sunshine during the middle part of the day, requiring the wearing of the winter shorts. Getting to grips with living with Level 2 has seen more social interaction and non-essential outings.
Steve and Ros came over on Monday for tech support (R) and haircut (S), and Nicky made my birthday cake so that like me, it can it can mature sedately.
Nicky and I have had some trips out; one to recycle the backlog of soft plastics and collect our free brandy (it’s purchased with Reward Points), and another for an amble along Tamaki Drive. We really enjoyed the afternoon sun and the view over the water of Rangitoto as we walked from Mission Bay to Kohimarama and back again. I was interested to see both a beach sculpture and a giraffe on a balcony:
We also had a walk to the end of Taunton Terrace, here in Bockhouse Bay, to take in the view and some photos. The combination of much less traffic due to the Covid-19 lockdown (reducing the pollution) and the current high pressure system has produced very clear air, and consequently improved the view.
Some of the Auckland Libraries have re-opened this week, Blockhouse Bay being one of them. Nicky called in and discovered a chaotic situation, books and borrowers everywhere. She also enjoyed morning tea up at a café in the Bay with Jan, Valda and Helen from her church House Group on Friday.
I have had an MRI this week to investigate my sudden noise / vertigo issue. I don’t know when I will get the results. On Thursday I met up with some D&M friends for dinner at a Malaysian restaurant in town. It was held for Gordon who is really unwell with cancer and the treatment for it. The premises were uninspiring but the food was inexpensive and excellent. I have also done a little work, but it is still thin on the ground.
On the house front, now that we have consent and Bert is off the leash, things are staring to happen. Wednesday was pegging out for the slab, and Bert has given us some dates for the pouring of slab and delivery of the frame. It is just a year since we first visited Whanganui on our tiki tour of Aotearoa to find an affordable place to live in retirement.
Yesterday Nicky had a grand day out at Eden Gardens with Stella, Steve and Ros, followed by Scrabble at Stella’s. The weather started to change yesterday but this did not spoil their enjoyment of the gardens and all the lovely autumn colours. While Nicky was out I made lemon curd and started a jigsaw. For tea we had stuffed capsicums which Steve had grown, followed by hot cross buns purchased from Bakers Delight earlier in the week to celebrate their re-opening.
Today has been chilly and wet, so we have stayed home, working on the jigsaw and Nicky Zooming with church.
Take care, Rick
