One Year On

Our last week of summer (it officially ended yesterday) has again been largely glorious, hot, sunny and dry. Autumn started off quite sunny this morning too, but has clouded over this afternoon.

Nicky’s week has been dominated by her cellulitis. She started off quite low but has improved as the week has progressed, but has now started having periods of nausea too. She had a bad spell at church this morning where for a short period her legs would no longer support her, so it will be off to the GP again tomorrow.

However, she has managed to do some positive things too. Monday was the 25th birthday of the Blockhouse Bay Library, and a very well attended morning tea turned out to be very good. It was lunchtime before Nicky got home. She went to the cinema with Stella to see Emma, which they both thoroughly enjoyed and would like to see again. One of her fellow prison volunteers came over to discuss the current situation and some progress is being made. Holy Communion, Ash Wednesday service and a prayer meeting have also been squeezed in between lots of reading.

My week hasn’t been too busy with work, but I have done some on-site calls and remote support, along with some workstation assessments for one customer. Some time assisting Jancis has also been fitted in.

Tuesday evening was very eventful and enjoyable. Jancis came over for pancakes (bacon, banana and maple syrup followed by melon, mango and pineapple), and Ryan’s parents came and collected all of Claire’s boxes that she sorted out when she was up at Christmas. It was very good to see them.

Yesterday we had a late breakfast, and to celebrate Nicky’s 1st anniversary of retirement I added smoked salmon to the scrambled eggs on toast. Stella, Steve and Ros came over for Scrabble late afternoon, but the rest of the day was quiet.

While Nicky was at church this morning, I went out to Karekare and had a quiet and enjoyable walk and dip in the sea. Jancis came home from church with Nicky and stayed for lunch, and we have spent the afternoon chatting and then reading. I am heading out to The Rattigan now to join Nicky in the cooling evening air.

Take care, Rick
