The bird is on the wing.

I was going to say that this should be last week where I have to post early in order to keep on the right side of Mrs. Trellis (Endeavour finishes tonight), but having just looked at next week’s TV schedule, a new series of “Making New Zealand” starts next Sunday so I might still be posting early. The things I do for you, Dear Reader.

This week has marked another step in our new home project. There were two clauses in our Sales and Purchase agreement that we had to satisfy, and we have done both of them now. The next step is for the vendors to have the services installed, and then get title issued on the section, so for us in that respect it is now just a case of waiting, possibly until mid-December. We expect to use the time to design and plan with our builder, so that the consents paperwork is all ready for when we are allowed to submit it.

The weather has been quite spring-like, which I suppose is reassuring, with some welcome sunshine and showers to keep us checking if the washing is OK. The wind however, especially towards the end of the week, has had a chilly bite to it.

Nicky has been busy with her regular commitments of Seniors Church and Holy Communion, and keeping the house clean. She has done some more gardening at Stella’s and had a good evening on Thursday with a prayer group with the prison volunteers. Friday afternoon she was chained to the stove cooking two lots of chicken and lemon dinners, due to our current surfeit of lemons.

My work week has been quiet, with all my work being done remotely except for a visit from a customer on Tuesday afternoon. Thursday evening I was in town for my Deep and Meaningful MeetUp, and we had a better conversation than I expected about poetry. I have also had my two year visit to the optician, everything testing OK though interestingly my right eye seems to be better than it was two years ago.

Yesterday, Saturday, was our 12th anniversary of arriving in New Zealand. We celebrated with avocado and poached eggs on toast for breakfast, the last of the hot cross buns (from the freezer) with Wensleydale (kindly provided by my nephew) for tea, along with savoury brioche which Nicky had made earlier in the day, and then topped off with a glass of port each in the evening (v.good as Ms. Jones would say - port supplied by Stella for some services happily rendered). In between meals Nicky nipped over to Stella’s for a couple of rounds of Scrabble.

The weather was been undecided this morning, so instead of going out to Karekare while Nicky was at church, I walked down to the BHB beach and along some of the coast path. I got both dampened by the rain and toasted by the sun. Nicky has been both uncomfortable and in pain with something dental - she is off for a routine checkup in the morning so that is timely. After a sunny afternoon and bruschetta for tea we will be communing with the tellybox this evening.

Take care, Rick
