Starting my last year as a fifty-something

We started this week with a public holiday, as both the Queen and I had birthdays. I also started the week with a perception of much diary juggling of work appointments as a couple of significant issues had come up while we were in Hastings. One of them took me into town first thing Monday morning and didn’t see me back home until early afternoon. With it being a cool but sunny day, Nicky had set to with changing the bed, doing the washing, mowing the grass, and doing the subsequent ironing.

My working week turned out not to be quite as full as I had thought it might be. I had a customer bring me a machine for a drive upgrade late on Tuesday afternoon, so that occupied my Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. I was on the road on Friday for a couple of jobs up north, and in-between did some short local jobs, lots of admin, and eventually finished watching Apple’s WWDC keynote presentation, with all their lovely new technology.

We had a repair done to one of Nicky’s hearing aids on Tuesday, and on Wednesday she went over to Henderson for book chat and to do her voluntary hours. We had some heavy rain showers, especially around lunchtime, and them around 5.30pm a power cut. Nicky had already had the jacket spuds and Boston beans in the oven for awhile, and they were cooked and hot enough to eat by candle light. Fortunately the power came back on in time to watch the last episode of The Bay - which has been very good.

After getting my hair buzzed on Thursday morning I spent the rest of the day at my desk, and Nicky made more brioche, this time with some dried fruit in it, which worked very well. I went out for my Deep and Meaningful discussion in the evening. I was also out Friday evening for drinks up at The Block.

Yesterday was very windy like Friday, but dryer. After a morning at my desk I got some reading in while Nicky was over at Stella’s playing Scrabble with her, Steve and Ros. I made cauliflower cheese for dinner, but without cauliflower - I used broccoli and carrots instead.

Today has been a lovely sunny day, clear blue skies, little wind, and warm in the sun. I took advantage of the cessation of rain to do loads of washing, and got the ironing finished too while Nicky was at church this morning, and delivering flyers this afternoon. More reading has also been accomplished!

Take care, Rick
