This week has flown by
I’m not quite sure if we started this week (on Tuesday) suffering from jet lag or Melbourne lag. It is only a 2 hour difference between Auckland and Melbourne, but getting up to speed at the beginning of the week was quite an effort. It could also have been that our busy trip away had taken its toll.
Nicky did loads of washing on Tuesday, while I got to grips with the admin (both work and personal) following our return home. Shopping was required so I raided Fruit World and New World, and we finished the day with Jancis coming over for dinner. This enabled us to open a bottle of Rosé that one of my customers had given me, which we thoroughly enjoyed with our “chooks in blankets” (chicken breasts stuffed with chunky sundried tomato dip and wrapped in smoked bacon). Jancis has had a shorter stay in NZ this time and it was our only chance to have her over for dinner, and we had a really good evening.
Nicky spent most of Wednesday ironing before going up to church in the evening to help with Alpha catering. I did a long remote support call, tried to catch up with Apple’s announcements from while we were away, and finished off my holiday admin with some Trip Advisor reviews.
My niece Rachel was passing through Auckland Airport on her way back from the UK and France on Thursday morning, so I joined her for a coffee and a chat while Nicky was at a listening course which Jancis was running. We had a bit of time together late afternoon before I went into town for my Deep and Meaningful meeting, and Nicky went back to church for shared food, prayer group and AGM.
On Friday morning I had a long support call with Microsoft in preparation for a job I had booked in Browns Bay later in the day. There were remembrance services for the Christchurch mosque victims around the country and Nicky went off to Eden Park to attend the Auckland one. She found it very moving.
We didn’t sleep too well On Friday night so some more zed’s were required after Saturday morning’s breakfast of scrambled eggs. We had a look at three open homes in BHB in the afternoon, not that we can afford any of them, but now we are looking at the possibility of buying, we viewed them with a different eye to try and get some practice. One of the places, which we liked the best, used to be the beach ice cream kiosk and still has windows which open appropriately for the service of ice cream over the counter.
This morning was church for Nicky, and Karekare for me. The sea was calm and gentle so I was able to swim and enjoy the surf. Stella, Steve and Ros came over late morning for Scrabble, and not long after they left Jancis dropped in for some technical support. Tea was consumed with, and followed by, tellyboxing.
Take care, Rick
