Home again
The traveller has returned, jaded but happy. The flight from Singapore landed at 10.20am on Friday, and we were home a little after 11.30am. We had a very gentle afternoon slowly unpacking, looking at photos, and catching up on all that had happened since July 29th. I made us a smoked fish pie with proper shop-bought puff pastry for dinner which went down well.
The quiet theme continued yesterday. The morning showers largely turned to sun and laundry was dried inside and out. Ironing was done, photos were sorted into an edited set, some zeds were had, and Stella came over for Scrabble. In the evening we watched All the Presidents Men on DVD, though one of use slept through some of it.
Today has been similar, with church first thing and Mary coming back for a brew afterwards. I stayed home as a customer was dropping in a machine to me to take a look at, which I did, and she collected later. Nicky had bought me a 300-piece Marauder’s Map jigsaw in LA which we did after lunch and before having a walk down to the beach. After our tea time crumpets we started watching The BFG, but Nicky was falling asleep so has gone off to bed. She is slowly getting back into her home routine and time zone, has throughly enjoyed her trip, but is glad to be home.
My week began with a couple of quiet days, followed by a busy work day on Wednesday and then a busy domestic day on Thursday with cleaning, vacuuming and car washing. I think my efforts, though not comprehensive, were appreciated. After a late afternoon work appointment I celebrated my last day of solitude with a late dinner of egg and chips!
To all of you who helped Nicky’s trip go so well, a great big thank you. She really enjoyed seeing everybody. Of the nearly 600 photos which she returned with, there is one that stands out as my favourite:
Take care, Rick
