Mice? Really?
Wednesday was ANZAC Day, and I had offered to take Nicky and Mary to the dawn service at the museum. Nicky had been before and had major problems parking, hence my offer, though if I could have found somewhere to park I would have gone with them. As it was I couldn’t so I dropped them and found a spot way down Parnell Road. While they were at the service I had a wander up and down the road and cup of coffee and date scone. The service was good but both Mary and Nicky found standing, and at times being on uneven ground, difficult. We all met up again just before 7am and after dropping Mary at home enjoyed a good cooked breakfast.
Late morning we had a phone call from Pat inviting us and Stella up to them for afternoon tea. Nicky set to baking savoury muffins and a feijoa cake, but due interruptions and things taking longer than expected the cake didn’t make it to Whangaparaoa. Afternoon tea turned out to be lasagne and salad which was a bit of a surprise but very good. It was the first time we had seen Clem since his return from his Trans-Siberian rail and UK trip, so it was good to hear his account and see some photos.
Mary had been over with Nicky for lunch on Monday and to help her decide and set up alterations to some of the clothes she bought from the Op Shop last week. I had work on first thing but joined them at lunchtime, and then in the afternoon did food shopping and bought myself new work trousers (1 pair, black) and jeans (1 pair for $99 or 2 for $109 - guess what I did!).
Both of our working weeks have been busy, and the weather has been pretty dull with heavy rain towards the end. Nicky had her ‘flu jab and I enjoyed another Deep & Meaningful evening which concluded with four of us going to a shop which sells stunning ice cream.
I was working up in Westgate yesterday so dropped Nicky off at the library for her Saturday duty. The weather was appalling, with high winds and torrential rain all morning and into the afternoon. I had some time with Stella to try and figure out why her broadband connection isn’t working properly (we reconvene next week), and later Stella, Nicky and Steve Scrabbled.
The weather wasn’t inviting enough to tempt me out to the west coast this morning, so while Nicky was at church I made another batch of frangipani tarts, modifying the recipe to try and get them more moist. I had some success but feel that the influence of the almonds is going to make the finished product quite dry anyway.
We had a wander down to BHB Reserve this afternoon and Nicky has been washing garments from church this afternoon as they are having a mouse problem. Aren’t church mice compulsory? If we are still awake, the tellybox will be the focus of our attention this evening.
Take care, Rick
