A taste of what's to come

Our main event this week has been Nicky’s interview, which was on Wednesday. I took her down to New Lynn library and though short, she felt that the interview went very well. Most people have now had their interviews which for a little while relieved the levels of anxiety. What is not yet know is the outcome - what job, where, and for how many hours. It could be 2-3 weeks before the job offeres are made, so we are not completely out of the woods yet.

The other notable event has been the weather. A southerly blast at the beginning of the week gave us a couple of nights with lows of 3°. Heaters out of storage and winter duvet on, but we are back to the low teens now. The rain has also been messing around with my laundry routine.

Work has been relatively quiet for me but has occupied the second half of the week. Shopping and cooking have progressed as usual, and I have enjoyed listening to John Lanchesters’ Capitol.

Nicky has had a couple of evenings out at church and alpha, but was too tired to go to prison prayer group.

We have had a quiet weekend, which has been good with last weekend being full of writers festival. I have sold the TV which we bought from Dawn and Barry 8 years ago on TradeMe. The lady buyer came and collected it on Saturday morning and paid me the $1 that she had won the auction with. Nicky did a bit of shopping to get ingredients for scones, which she then made and we enjoyed some of them for tea.

Today was forecast to be wet but has actually been a good and mainly sunny day, so I was very pleased to go to Karekare while Nicky was at church. There was a house-full when I got home but that soon made them depart! Nicky Scrabbled at Stella’s this afternoon while I made pork pies, partially in order to test my new pepper grinder (to make sure it is an acceptable birthday present while there is still time to procure an alternative), and partially because I like pork pies. The new grinder passed with flying colours, so good in fact that the pies might be a little too peppery.

Take care, Rick
