I'm not just watching the beach volleyball

The Olympics have impacted on our daily routines this week. We don’t normally have the tellybox on at breakfast or lunchtime, but have been doing so this week to catch up with events in Rio. The coverage, as one would expect, has been a little partisan, but I have also discovered that the Brits have been doing very well in the velodrome. We have enjoyed much of what we have seen so far.

The beginning of the week was chilly, with temperatures of 4º and 5º in the roof to start the day, but it has been dryer. Some showers but no major downpours.

Nicky has been busy at work as usual. She had a day of customer service training in town which meant an early start with some of her colleagues as they were car pooling. The course was good but she didn’t really learn anything new. She also worked a long day on Saturday (8.30am to 7pm) at a Family Heritage expo in Mt Roskill. This was busy for most of the day and interesting, especially when things were quiet at the end and she did some research on her own family. She also had an evening out at prison prayer group this week.

My week has been good, with a reasonable amount of work, and not too much hassle from the washing. I watched a film called The Truth about journalists investigating George W. Bush’s military record, which seems to have been largely fictional. However, ultimately they had to virtually retract everything. It did nothing for my confidence in the American political system and perversely could explain why Donald has got as far as he has. For some reason I still haven’t quite seen his candidature as reality. I keep expecting the Republican’s to stop him any day now… I had a very good evening out at Deep and Meaningful discussing regret, and was pleased I didn’t miss my bus home. We have a new and cheaper fare structure being implemented today (unless the techies have slipped up again!).

With Nicky being out all day yesterday and our freezer looking bereft of sustenance, I did some cooking while keeping one eye on the happenings in Rio. In the morning I made smoked fish pie and a large lasagne (as I couldn’t use my usual dish as it had the pie in it), and in the afternoon a three bean curry, which is an adaptation of a couple of other recipes so I’m not convinced how well it has turned out.

Today has been fine but cool. We have had a quiet day at home with two bursts of activity with car washing (R) and lawn moving (N). Nicky has been over to Stella’s for Scrabble, and we will be infront of the box watching the last episode of The Five tonight.

Take care, Rick
