Really, you think that's cold?

Work-wise it has been a pretty routine (for N) and good (for me) week. The library has been busy as ever, but has also had some additional staff from time to time. New Lynn, Avondale and BHB libraries are being refurbished. Avondale was first and now New Lynn has been started, and at times when the staff can’t go into their usual library they are being sent elsewhere. I have had work most days, and a couple of the jobs were quite long which was good.

The weather has continued to be good most of the time. Today has been gorgeous and we had dinner on the Rattigan on Wednesday. Nicky removed our sheet and American quilt on Thursday (the quilt is only a thin top cover) and put our summer quilt back on as the temperature dropped to a chilly 13° on Wednesday night. It was down to 21° on Thursday (!) night, but has cooled down again since. The mornings and evenings are getting cooler, but the sun is still hot during the day.

We started watching The Night Manager on Monday night (recored), which we are told we are getting “express from the UK”, which should mean we are only a week or two behind. We are thoroughly enjoying it, but it makes our Sunday evening tellybox schedule very packed and I have to make the PVR do things my way and not its way.

Nicky went over to Jancis’s to watch a Fashion in Film DVD on Tuesday (they discovered they both had copies of it out of the library at the same time - I don’t understand why the library has got more than one copy of it!). Jancis called in on Friday afternoon and I was able to persuade her to stay for dinner once she had been allowed out to go and by wine (which we enjoyed) and we watched “In which we serve” afterwards. Interesting film. I’m sure I’ve seen it before, but I suspect more than 40 years ago.

Yesterday I went up to Uretiti for the first time in over 4 years for a naturist event, but it didn’t happen. Even though the weather was good most of the way up, on the beach it was dull, cold, windy and then started to rain. So, I went to have a look at Marsden (where a new city is apparently being developed, next to a refinery) to see what was happening. It all looked very quiet to me except at the wharf which was stuffed with boaties and jet skiers. Even though it was a 2 hour drive each way, I enjoyed the day, used different routes, and stopped in places that I hadn’t seen for awhile. Nicky, meantime, was doing major cleaning at home before Scrabbling with Steve at Stella’s.

Today, while she went to church and then onto a Quilting exhibition with Jancis, Stella and others, I went to Karekare. The sky was clear, sun not too hot until returning, breeze gentle and cool, and the sea was lovely; calmer than usual. Jancis came back for lunch and a chat, and as I write this Nicky is mowing the grass. We will have bruschetta for tea, followed by much tellybox, which is why I am writing this now.

Take care, Rick.
