We're Flagging
It has been one of those weeks where the weather is apparently good for the garden, but not for the laundryman. The official beginning of spring on Tuesday brought with it much rain, and all of it wet.
My working week has been bookended with jobs on Monday and Friday with nothing in-between. Nikcy’s week has been very busy and difficult, but a staff meeting seems to have helped the situation. Socially it has been quiet too, with Nicky just out on Monday for prison prayer group, and me on Friday up at The Block for a drink. I started with a bit of a cold on Thursday which is still lingering but is not too bad. The paracetamol really helps.
The notable events this week have been: the announcement by the flag commission of the final four designs that we will get to choose from; (for those of you not in this neck of the woods you can see them here:
https://www.govt.nz/browse/engaging-with-government/the-nz-flag-your-chance-to-decide/the-four-alternatives); my organising our holiday in the deep south next year, and my going to the opticians as I do finally need glasses. Nicky and I chose the frames on Saturday.
We had a very good but busy day yesterday. Nicky had invited Becky and Dave over for a late Saturday morning breakfast, which was very enjoyable. We had fresh fruit salad to tempt the taste buds before demolishing the bacon, sausages, tomatoes, scrambled eggs and toast, and rounding off with tea and coffee. It was good to see them both and Becky is looking well.
Nicky and I then zipped unto the opticians and on the way back invited our new neighbours over for afternoon tae and cake. They accepted so Nicky got busy making cakes while I started working through our selections in this year’s Heritage Festival programme. Our neighbours duly arrived (Dawn came round too) and we had a good chat and enjoyed the still warm hummingbird cake. They moved to NZ from Sri Lanka 14 years ago, and until recently had been living in Epsom. They were not too sure about Blockhouse Bay so had lots of questions to which our answers seemed to be helpful.
After they had departed we got ready to go off to the cinema at St. Lukes to use some of our free movie money on seeing “A Walk in the Woods”, based on the Bill Bryson book. It was gentle and enjoyable.
We have had a quiet day at home today after Nicky got back from church this morning. Nicky has been doing some cleaning and I popped over to Stella’s (who also has the lurgy) to pick up my backup drive, and we are both progressing well with our books.
Today has also been Father’s Day here, and Claire send me free pens, chocolate and a terrific card:
Take care, Rick
