The wonderful thing about Tiggers…

Winter has been reminding us this week that it has not quite gone away yet. It has been cold and wet much of the time, but this hasn’t stopped borrowers frequenting the library and making it a very busy week for Nicky. I, on the other hand, have had a very quiet week work-wise, with just a couple of jobs.

In addition to my routine house husband tasks, I spent time at the beginning of the week organising our Heritage Festival schedule which is coming up shortly. I also collected my spectacles, one pair for driving (with magnetically attached polarised lenses for the sunny days) and another “normal” pair for general distance vision, such as watching the tellybox and reading the behind-the-counter menu’s in cafés. It is going to take me awhile to get used to them, and the almost painfully crisp view of the world, but I am quite pleased to start using them.

We had Shani visiting us for dinner again on Wednesday so I made beef and mozzarella pie which turned out OK, but not quite what I expected. Nicky and I then went to Jan and John’s as for her life group meeting they had offered to show us some photos of their recent trip to Vanuatu, which was very interesting.

We had a treat yesterday, waking up to blue skies. Nicky cut the grass after breakfast though it was very wet which made it hard work. In the afternoon I took her over to Titirangi where she was helping with the Auckland Library stand at Going West, a writers festival. This gave her a free pass to a session (about things which Kiwi’s have and haven’t invented) and she enjoyed it so much I have put a note in my diary for next year in the hope that I will have time to save up for full weekend passes for both of us.

I collected Nicky at 5pm and we went straight up to Birkenhead for our dinner date. One of my fellow MeetUp group members had invited us over, and as she is a nutritionist and excellent chef I wasn’t going to say no. The food, unsurprisingly was excellent: cannellini bean dip with doritos and carrots, roast chicken stuffed with chestnuts and topped with ginger and pawpaw sauce, followed by sugar, gluten and everything else free except for stunning deliciousness chocolate tart for dessert. It was a fantastic meal and a great evening.

Today has been cooler and duller but dry. Nicky made cheese and onion scones after church which were just coming out of the oven when Stella and Steve arrived for Scrabble. We had a wander round the reserve this afternoon as even though I am now over my cold, I haven’t got my Tigger levels of bounce back. OK, I haven’t been that bouncy for years, but I usually expect to have more energy than I have at the moment. This evening it is tellyboxing with some new drama series.

Take care, Rick
