Wynyards Birthday
We have had rain at some point every weekday this week except for Thursday, which also happened to be the only day where I didn’t have some paid work. As a result, most of the washing was done on Thursday or dried inside, and July has ended up being a reasonable month for me.
The library seems to have been back to normal - either steadily busy or manic. Nicky started with a sore throat towards the end of the week.
Nicky had life group on Wednesday evening and prayer group at church on Thursday evening, and I went into town for my MeetUp group. On Monday and Tuesday evenings we binged watched the first 5 episodes of Fargo which I had recorded. We were not sure how we would get on with it but so far OK. Looking forward to the next episode this week.
We had a bit of a treat on Friday evening. I planned to cook baked stuffed mushrooms because we hadn’t had them for ages, so I popped into the butchers to get something to go with it. I discovered they had some “individual” beef Wellington’s, so I bought a couple and we thoroughly enjoyed them. I had a glass of beer with mine which I started while doing the cooking.
Our highlight of the week was yesterday. The day was cool but dry and the sun came our regularly. After a late breakfast we went down to Wynyard Quarter on the waterfront for their 4th birthday celebrations. The food stalls were just setting up when we got there, so we had a walk along the wharf, enjoying the sun and the children playing with all the games equipment that had been provided. The Super Hero band were very good but we were starting to feel like a sit down and a hot drink. We ended up in Miss Clawdy’s Kitchen on Jelicoe Street. They do South & Central American style food, so along with the tea and coffee we ordered some corn bread, which we enjoyed enough to want to go back there again to explore more of the menu. By the time we got back to the Silo Park end of the wharf to food stalls were in full swing, so we bought some pretzels and sat at a communal table and had a good chat with a couple who originally hailed from Dargaville. We wandered through the local projects exhibition and watched the world go by (until the sun went in again), and then headed off to Northcote.
Steve was busy this weekend and unavailable for Scrabble, so Stella and Nicky decided to go to the cinema to see “Far from the Madding Crowd”, and the most convenient showing was at the Bridgeway in Northcote. We got there just before Stella and in time for coffee and a chat. I came away and Stella dropped Nicky home later, and we had pancake stacks for tea. It was a really nice day, relaxing and enjoyable, along with quite a bit of walking.
Today has been much wetter, so we have had a quiet day at home after Nicky came back from church.
Take care, Rick
