New booties
It has been a mixed week, one way and another. We have had sunshine, major rain and flooding (at the library and other parts of BHB), quiet days and busy days.
I did a Mac job in Red Beach on Monday afternoon, then nothing on-site until Thursday afternoon, and then two “emergency” jobs over the bridge on Friday morning. Due to men working on an over head power-line in Devonport, it took me an hour and three quarters to do a 30 minute trip home. I was ready for my lunch when I got back. The rest of my time has bee occupied with work admin, laundry, shopping and cooking. On Tuesday I roasted a joint of beef which went very well with the Yorkshire Puddings, and made some excellent gravy. I combined my Thursday afternoon job with my trip into town for my MeetUp group.
Nicky has been very busy at work again with the schools being on holiday. We had a major rainstorm on Thursday night and the drains in the courtyard at the library just couldn’t cope, hence the flooding as water overflowed into the library. The rain had started on Wednesday and other parts of BHB had flooding then, prompting Claire to give us a ring from Christchurch (where she was working for a few days) to check that we were OK. Nicky went down for her Te Reo class on Tuesday evening but there was nobody else there, and she has now had an email explaining that it’s been put on hold for awhile.
The two exciting events of the week have been Nicky winning another $20 on Bonus Bonds, and Luna getting a full set of new booties (tyres), which she really likes. We have also had a plethora of very good DVD’s arrive from the library: Paddington, The Imitation Game, and The Theory of Everything. We watched Paddington on Friday night and found it enchanting. Even though there are significant changes from the books, it was very entertaining and the characterisation of Paddington is very well done. We really enjoyed it. We watched the Alan Turing film (The Imitation Game) last night and it didn’t disappoint. I also learned some things which I didn’t know. We should get round to Stephen Hawking next week.
Yesterday started very wet but cleared up late morning. Stella, Steve and Ros came over for Scrabble, and Stella joined Nicky and I for lunch and went to BHB quitters with Nicky in the afternoon. While they Scrabbled, I made ale house bread and veg soup (which included the last of the beef gravy) for lunch. There were 17 quilters and they had a good afternoon.
Today didn’t start to well but the sun was out by mid morning so it aired my ironing very nicely. We had a lazy afternoon reading and pottering after Nicky got back from prison, and finished off the soup (with some crumpets that Stella kindly gave us) for tea. The wind has turned to the south again, and so the temperature has headed in the same direction.
Take care, Rick
