Kilts

Co-ordinating work and laundry has been the theme of the week for me, as the weather has not been overly helpful, and I have been quite busy with work. I did a very expensive (for me) food shop on Monday, stocking up on items on offer which I don’t buy very often. Having been paid made cash flow a bit easier. It was Thursday before I had much time at home so spent 3 hours preparing the filling for the Hairy Biker’s steak and ale pie - it’s worth the effort. I then went into town to do a quick job before going onto my MeetUp group for the evening. I had all of Friday at home, a man came to fix the door on the dish washer, and I got the ironing and more shopping done, before making up the steak and ale pie. I went up to The Block for a drink later.

Nicky has had a busy but reasonable week at work. I dropped her in Henderson on Wednesday morning for a “meet the boss” meeting with the new Auckland Council CEO, and it went very well. Nicky had a hair dressing appointment on Tuesday evening and was at house group Wednesday evening, so we haven’t had much after-work time together this week.

We had a wet start to the day yesterday so compensated with a late breakfast of tomatoes and sausages on toast. I was due to do some work for Ivan and Faye, and Nicky asked to come along as she used to work with Faye and wanted a catch-up, so they invited us for lunch. We had a quick raid on the supermarket to get some nice cheese and crackers to take with us. We had a lovely time exchanging news and eating cheese and crackers, soup and fresh warm bread, and finishing off with Faye’s homemade gluten-free raspberry muffins. We got home shortly before Steve and Ros arrived for Scrabble, and then after watching the Jancis Barlow Show (Country Calendar) started watching a six part documentary on the London Underground which Nicky brought home on DVD. It is very well done and makes you realise what a complex operation it is. Some of the numbers are just eye-watering.

Today has been quite sunny with a cold wind. I stayed at home while Nicky went off to church, then after lunch we went to the North Shore Event Centre for the 6th Tartan Day Tattoo. This celebrates with pipe bands and highland dancing the repeal on July 1st 1747 the act of Proscription which banned the wearing of tartan. There could have been more pipe band and less dancing for my linking, but it was a fun event and a good way to spend a wintery Sunday afternoon. Nicky spent the late afternoon and into the evening making cakes and muffins for her commitments next week.

Take care, Rick
