Less is less
Another autumnal week has been populated with sunshine and showers, and finished with some major wind and rain in the last 48 hours.
The weather hasn’t made the library significantly quieter so Nicky has had another busy week, which has included her annual personal development interview (pleased that’s out of the way!). She was out two evenings with prison prayer group and house group.
I was busy with Mac work for the first three days of the week, and then out on Thursday to a Chamber of Commerce exhibition and then my MeetUp group. Friday was a domestic day for me.
Nicky took Thursday off as annual leave and we both attended John Mynett’s funeral at the Church of the Saviour. As expected it was very well attended, with family coming from Luxembourg and friends from Macclesfield. It was also relayed live to Luxembourg. Nicky was one of the many helpers with the wake and I think appreciated having a quiet afternoon at home afterwards.
Yesterday, in spite of the rain, we had a day out. The excuse was that Nicky wanted to do some birthday present shopping for me, so we headed into town first, and then up to Morris and James in Matakana. We had lunch in the pottery cafĂ© (Shipwrecked Scrambles Eggs - eggs on wholemeal bread with bacon, onion rings and tomato relish) which was good but not stunning. On our way home we called into Lynn Mall to complete the requisite shopping. After crumpets for tea we went down to the Te Pou theatre on Portage Road to see their inaugural production (this is where Nicky goes for he Te Reo class). The play was called Have Car Will Travel, and was described as “edgy”, which I now know means the inclusion of much colourful language, drug abuse, simulated sex (clothed) and murder. It was an interesting experience, which we rounded off with Country Calendar and a pot of tea when we got home.
Today has again been largely wet. Stella and Steve came over for Scrabble this afternoon and Nicky made scones. A good quiet “at home” day.
On the exciting news front, I have two items to report: Claire and Ryan are in the process of buying a house; and I am no longer overweight. For the last two weeks my weight has been below the upper limit of the range for my height, and is still going south.
Take care,
Rick
