Spring?

Monday, being September 1st, was the first day of spring, which probably explains why it rained all day. It had rained all night too, but we did get some sunshine on Tuesday, after 20 hours of solid rain. It has been a sunny/cloudy/wet sort of week until today, which has been clear blue skies, little breeze, and 19°C. Much more like a nice spring day.

The variable weather has impacted on the footfall to the library, and Nicky’s week has been as busy as ever, along with house group on Wednesday evening.

I have had a quiet week work wise. Nothing on-site but quite a bit of email and phone support. The usual house-husband tasks have been completed, along with finishing reading the Wiki Coffin series, which I have enjoyed. I went into town on Thursday evening for my discussion group, which was stimulating and enjoyable.

Yesterday started cloudy with the odd shower, but slowly improved. Steve came over for an early game of Scrabble, then Nicky made crumble-top cheese and bacon muffins for our lunch which were great, like all the other savoury muffins she has made from the same recipe book. In the afternoon we drove into town to go and listen to the NZ String Quartet at the Q Theatre. I had been given a couple of tickets by one of my customers (who works in the performing arts area). This was part of their salon series, and we heard Bach, Haydn, Zhou Long, Wolf and Grieg. It was an interesting experience which Nicky really enjoyed; I liked the Bach.

Today, I celebrated the gorgeous weather and Fathers Day by emptying the very full laundry basket onto the washing line via the washing machine, and then going off to Whatipu for a walk along the beach and a swim. The beach had been re-sculptured by nature since may last visit there in April. There were lots of either big puddles or small lagoons at the back of the beach and around the dunes. Some of the water was lovely and warm to walk through.

Nicky brought Mary Manton home from church and persuaded her to stay and have lunch with us. Nicky later celebrated the good weather by mowing the grass, trimming the boarders, and doing the vacuuming. I went over to pick-up Stella and take her to St Helliers to collect her new car which she had bought from a family friend. Nicky and I had tea and crumpets when I got back, then an evening with the tellybox.

That’s it for now, so it’s headlong into spring!!

Take care, Rick
