Sunshine and showers
As we get to “review the week” time again I sit down quite jaded. It has been my busiest week ever with MacOnSite work, though that is partially because of working through the weekend. Nicky has had a better week at the library now that she and the other staff are talking about the issues that face them all. The weather has forced me to dry the laundry inside most of the week, so it was a small load each day until Friday, when I was finally able to get some outside, and then another two loads yesterday. In between the showers we have had some lovely sunshine, but many of the showers have been torrential so it just wasn’t worth putting anything out.
Nicky and I moved the sofa round in front of the tellybox on Wednesday evening and watched a great film called “Like Something God Made” starring Alan Rickman, about the development of heart surgery, primarily for blue babies. It was very well done and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I was out on Thursday night at another discussion group meeting in town which was again interesting, and with a quite different mix of people.
Yesterday I spent most of the day doing a complete “from the ground up” rebuild of a Mac. Nicky pottered around the house, vacuumed, played Scrabble with Stella and Steve, and then cut the grass by twilight. While she did this I made cheese and onion muffins in the brownie tin to go with our tomato soup. We popped out for a walk in the cool night air because it was so clear, and we had a great view of the stars before returning to watch Vera.
Today, Nicky was at church first thing and then this afternoon went down to Black Salt in New Lynn for another meet-up of ex-New Lynn library staff. I returned the Mac I had been working on yesterday to the owner and did some work on his technology at home. He lives in Narrow Neck (Devonport) so the trip enabled me to achieve three things which I hadn’t done before:
1. Take the ferry from the CBD to Devonport, and back again;
2. Go to work on a ferry;
3. Use one of the free ferry tickets that Gill gave me last year that she got with the harbour cruise tickets. We always get the free tickets this way but they are time-limited and we haven’t used one before.
On the way back Steve picked me up in town so that I could borrow his car again. The car yard which is looking for a new car for us hasn’t found anything yet, so we have started to expand our criteria (i.e.: be less picky).
And that dear reader is it for now. Back again next week.
Take care, Rick
