Meet Luna…
…our new wheels.
She is a 9 year old Suzuki Swift that the car yard down the round found for us. Being a Japanese import she wasn’t registered in NZ. I asked if we had any influence over the number plate (other than having a private plate) and was told no, they are computer generated. So, imagine my surprise when I was informed what it was. For those for whom the significance is not obvious, here is the explanation: about 10 years ago Nicky announced that if ever we had a sweet wee blue car then she would like to call it Luna, after Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter books, who is in Ravenclaw house, whose colour is blue. Hence her name. But, if the penny hasn’t yet dropped, Luna Lovegood only appears in the books which cover years 5, 6 and 7. So, we have Harry Potter Years 5, 6 and 7. Stunning, eh? Anyway, she is a great little car, feels very solid drive, and has got nice wee features such as variable-speed intermitted windscreen wipers. The car yard called on Monday to say they had found something which might be suitable. I went and had a look on Tuesday and drove it up to the library for Nicky to see. On Wednesday we had it inspected and that went OK, so she was paid for and we took delivery on Friday. It has been the most exciting event of the week.
Nicky has had quite a good week at work, which concluded with an almost day-long staff meeting with pizza for lunch on Friday. I have done quite a bit of Mac work and liaised with the weather over drying the washing.
We have had a couple of quite cold days this week, and major wind, rain and hail storms on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The weekend has been brighter.
Jan Clearwater came over for dinner on Friday (her John is away travelling) and we had a good long chat. On Saturday morning we drove over to the new library which is under construction in Ranui. They needed people to provide handprints for an artwork which will be a major feature of one wall. Nicky drove us home to start to get used to Luna, and then went off to the inaugural session of BHB Quilters which she and Mary have organised. There were 5 ladies in total and it went very well. We decided we wanted to do something together before tea so started a jigsaw - the map of Loughborough that we bought in 2004. It took us most of the evening to finish it.
This morning Nicky went off to prison, with a different group, so drove herself. I did the ironing. After lunch I dropped her at Stella’s for Scrabble and went on to Karekare for a walk and a paddle - it wasn’t warm enough to swim, but it is still mid-winter.
That’s all for now,
Take care, Rick
