Bye Lilly
The weather started out quite cold this week, but was unseasonably warm by the end. This hasn’t put the rain off, and we have had a couple of foggy mornings, but not done too badly with getting washing dry outside.
Nicky has had a couple of good days at work in the library, one of them her best yet, and has been as busy as ever. I have had a very busy work week with three days at Electorate HQ, and a day and a half cramed with Mac work. Having the loan of Steve’s car this week (I took it back on Friday evening) has been a great help.
Lilly, our little green VW Polo was officially written off on Wednesday. The quote for the repair bill came in at $6500, significantly more than the value of the car. On the upside, we have been paid more than I was expecting, and our excess too. The insurance money alone is probably enough to buy another 17 year old car which has done about 200,000 kms, but I would like to get something a little younger if we can. We went down to a car yard yesterday which was recommended by our local friendly mechanic and gave them our requirements. We will see what they can come up with. I was able to go and collect some of our things from Lilly on Wednesday, and took this while I was there:
We had dinner at Mexacali Fresh in New Lynn on Thursday with Stella, Tim and Kate to celebrate their 1st anniversary of moving to Henderson. Becky, Dave and Dave’s Aunt Mary also joined us for drinks before going of to the Twilight Market for their dinner. It was good to get together and have a chat, and we had a good evening.
I was working Saturday morning, another system test for the election. Steve picked up Nicky and they went over to Stella’s for two games of Scrabble. We had a walk down to the car yard in the afternoon before an evening with the tellybox.
Today was very wet all morning and into the afternoon. I did ironing while Nicky was at church, and then we watched the half of Vera that Nicky slept through yesterday evening, and then Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which was quite good fun for a damp Sunday afternoon. Stella popped in, and then when the sun came out we had a wander down to the beach, with ice creams on the way. The sea was really calm and it was a very pleasant way to end the weekend.
Take care,
Rick
