Stormy weather

The week started wet, and then got wetter on Tuesday, and then got very, wet, windy and destructive on Tuesday night. Very few Aucklanders got a decent night’s sleep due to the storm, and we woke to a power cut on Wednesday morning. Power was restored about 7.15 (just after I had put together an alternative non-porridge breakfast) and I got washing done and dried as the sun came out later. We didn’t have any major damage (just a bit or rearranging in the garden) but I caught the bus into town to work and saw this on Princess Street:

The weather has been good for the rest of the week, the weekend especially, but that’s due to change tomorrow.

Nicky’s hasn’t had a very good week at work, but hopefully the meeting she had with her boss on Friday will have sorted out some misunderstandings and things will improve. She was at prison prayer group on Monday night but was to tired for her other prayer group on Wednesday evening. She took some quilts over to Ranui on Thursday evening ready for their exhibition this weekend.

I have had work a couple of days this week, and also spent quite a bit of time restructuring the drives I use for doing diagnostic work. I have also started reading one of the three large manuals that I have to plough through prior to my training for the Operations Manager job at the elections. Very exciting stuff! I managed a walk and a swim out at O’Neill’s on Thursday afternoon and had the pleasure of meeting a fellow skinny-dipper. I got the ironing done on Friday and celebrated with a couple of pints up at The Block in the evening.

Yesterday we went to the zoo. Nicky had another employee complimentary ticket which expired at the end of this month. We had offered it to a number of people over the last few months but having no takers decided to use it ourselves, especially with it being such a nice day. Even though we didn’t enjoy the zoo as much as on our first visit a couple of years ago, we did have a good time, a nice picnic, and were entertained by both a Kea and the Tigers. Some storm damage meant one of the main paths was closed and it was very busy being a Saturday, but we had a good four hours or so before returning home for Scrabble with Stella and Steve.

Today Nicky has been into prison this morning - her groups’ last visit at this time of day and to this part of the prison. Teresa dropped her in Ranui so she could help out (as arranged) at the quilters exhibition, but discovered when she got there that they had more pairs of hands then they needed. I went out to Karekare again this morning for another lovely walk and swim while recording Italy beating England at the World Cup. I picked Nicky up a bit after 4 and we have had a quiet evening as we are both feeling rather jaded.

Take care,

Rick
