Another shortest day

Ten days into the World Cup and isn’t it exciting!!!! We are getting some of the games “free-to-air” at 7am so we can watch them with breakfast, and then there is a highlights programme late afternoon (which I am now recording for Nicky). It’s a shame England are out, but some of the other games have been great to watch.

The rest of our week has been much lest exciting. Nicky has had a bit of a better week at work, and on Wednesday went into town for “digital device training”. The libraries are expanding the services they offer to tablet and e-reader users and have a range of software that borrowers can use. It is also helpful if the staff have a bit of an idea as to how they work too.

Much of my week has been taken up with negotiating the drying of the washing in the not very helpful weather (we have had some rain), and reading two of my three very think manuals in preparation for my election work. I have had a bit of Mac work, and also helped Dawn resolve a hardware problem with her PC and get its operating system upgraded. Dawn has loaded me a no-longer-required treadmill, which I have found interesting to use. On Friday I started to feel quite under the weather, but I am improving now.

We had the sad news on Thursday that Jean, Ros’s mother, had died during the night in the home she had moved to a few weeks ago.

Nicky spent much of Saturday morning making rice salad ready for a church event (the COSCARS) in the evening. Even though I wasn’t feeling brilliant I drove unto Hatfields Beach for a Polar Plunge with a few fellow naturists to celebrate the winter solstice. Even though the water was cold, I felt quite a bit better for awhile afterwards, and the warm apple, sultana and brandy pies which I provided went down very well. By the time I got home Nicky, Stella and Steve and were starting a game of Scrabble. I stayed home for the evening while Nicky dressed to impress and went of to the COSCARS. She stayed a couple of hours but came home freezing, as the outside doors had been wide-open.

Today after church Helen, Warwick and Jan came back for tea, coffee and scones. Nicky then put together a picnic for us (mainly consisting of left over rice salad) and we went to the museum to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition, our outing to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. We were not that hungry when we got into town (due to the late morning scones!) so just had our fruit before heading off to the museum. The photographs were fantastic and we have a very enjoyable couple of hours. We finished off our picnic when we got home, then Nicky cut the lawn before sitting down with a mug of tea to watch the football highlights. We know how to live it up here you know!

Take care,

Rick
