No, Prime Minister

The best bits of our week have been, as ever, the social ones. Nicky has been busy at work, along with there being some lengthy meetings about the staff moves. We are still none the wiser as to wether or not Nicky will have to move (she has said she is willing too), where she might move to, or when. All we do know is that New Lynn library (where Nicky works) has the highest staffing levels so the chances of nobody moving are zero.

I, on the other hand, have had no paid work at all. This is the first week this year (apart from when we were away) where I have had no work. I hope it is a trend which will shortly come to an end! It has meant that I have had a walk each morning this week apart from one, when I went for a swim, which I should do more often. The rest of the week has been taken up with the usual laundry, ironing, shopping and cooking, so on Friday as the weather was sunny again I drove out to the west coast and had a walk along the beach at Karekare. It wasn't as sunny on the coast as at home, but for a change there was very little wind and I had a very pleasant and peaceful couple of hours.

Nicky was at a prison prayer group meeting on Monday evening, and then on Wednesday we joined a number of her house group members for a meal at Mix Moon, a Thai restaurant in New Lynn. We had a good evening and some excellent food. On Friday evening Nicky went straight into town from work and met up with Steve. They drove up to the North Shore for a screening of White Lies to help raise funds for a playgroup (which Kim uses for her ankle biters). Apparently it was good, but not light entertainment.

Also on Friday Stella, Katie and Tim went up to stay at Clem and Pats for a couple of nights. It was good for them to have a break and they are just starting a two week school holiday.

Nicky and I had a late breakfast on Saturday, and then extracted e-waste from the garage (fridge etc). There was a special collection at Lynnfield College which is just down the road so we thought we would take advantage of it. In the afternoon we went on to town to go and see Yes, Prime Minister at The Civic. We had all been big fans of the TV comedy series when we lived in England, but unfortunately the stage show didn't live up to our expectations. The all Australian cast tried very hard, but it lacked the polish we were used to, and being a stage production the nuance of facial expression was lost. We enjoyed going out but were ultimately disappointed. We came home and bought fish and chips and settled down to watch a couple of murder mysteries on the tellybox before retiring to bed. You can't say we don't know how to have a good time!

The weather, which has been pretty good all week with some long sunny spells, turned colder yesterday (there was hail on the Peninsula and we had a little here today). Today started out wet and we have had some heavy showers. Nicky went to church and I did some ironing. Stella, Katie and Tim returned early afternoon so that Stella could go and have a look at some houses.

Before Steve and Ros came over for Scrabble, Nicky went into Auckland General to visit Ruth. We had a message on the answer phone from Letty to say that she had fallen on Friday. She has a number of pelvic fractures and is not in a good way. Her heart condition is preventing them operating and Nicky was told she also has a lung infection and will probably be in hospital for around 6 months. Bit of a sad end to the week.

Take care,
Rick
