Wedding Anniversary

Saturday was the main event this week, with it being our 28th wedding anniversary and Stella's first house auction as a buyer.

We started the day with some rain, but it soon started to brighten up. Nicky, Stella and I had viennoiserie (croissants and pain au raisin) for breakfast which I had bought from the French deli in Mt Albert (Katie and Tim were still slumbering). Nicky started preparing onion soup for lunch and then we walked and drove down to Taylor Court for the auction. We met Paul, Jenny, Steve and Ros there who had all come to provide their support. Unfortunately Stella was bidding against a couple who were buying to rent and had deeper pockets, so she missed out. As much as this was a disappointing outcome, it was a valuable experience and I thought the house sold for more than it was really worth.

Paul and Jenny came back with us for lunch and departed later in the afternoon. Nicky and I went up to The Block café in the evening as they are now also open as a restaurant five nights a week. Nicky had filet mignon with an onion sauce, roasted tomatoes and beans. I had roast venison with a red wine jus, roasted carrots and BBQ potato salad. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared and presented, and we felt it was good value for money even though it was quite expensive. It is really nice to have a good restaurant within walking distance of home.

When we got back Nicky was very tired so went off to bed, which just left Stella, Katie, Tim and I to drink the Riesling which had been chilling (we left a bit for Nicky) while watching the tellybox.

The rest of the week has but much less eventful, other than the laundry/weather conundrum. We have had sunshine, showers, and then a major storm Thursday evening and night. The heater has been put to good use keeping us warm and drying the washing. I have been quite busy with Mac work again most days which has been good, and Nicky has been busy at the library getting ready for Matariki (Maori New Year).

We have had a quieter day today. Nicky made more onion soup as Clem and Pat joined us for lunch. Katie is becoming a dab hand at victoria sponges making one yesterday (filled with apricot jam and cream) and another one today (chocolate with cream topping and filling). Pat and Clem stayed until mid afternoon so were able to see our UK trip pictures and have a good chat.

Take care,
Rick
