End of the Summer Blues

We started the week, and the month, with a day off, due to it being Easter Monday. Always a good way to start the week. We had sort of thought of going to the beach but the weather wasn't quite as good as it could have been, and Nicky wasn't too well and was needing the toilet every few minutes. The weather was good enough for us to use The Ratigan for much of the day, and Jancis came over for an afternoon Mah Jong tutorial and stayed for tea, so we ended up having a very pleasant day. This has however, been our first Easter in NZ when we haven't made it up a volcano. Must try harder next year!

Nicky went to see Dr V. first thing Tuesday morning and didn't go into work. The medicaments he prescribed seem to be working now and Nicky was back at work on Wednesday, and also went to house group even though she wasn't 100%. She had a "How to set up a display" training course on Thursday at the Central Library which was very good.

I have had Mac work to do most of the week, along with various errands and my usual house husband duties. The weather interfered with my laundry routine but I got it all done by yesterday afternoon. Nicky took the car with her for her training on Thursday, and this gave me a good excuse to spend the day at home going though all or arrangements for our trip to the UK. Most things are now organised. I went out for a beer on Friday night which I haven't done in awhile. I also discovered on Wednesday that two of the traps had finally caught the mouse which I had been hunting for last few days.

Yesterday started of wet, which was not forecast - the rain was due in the afternoon. However, the afternoon turned out to be warm and sunny which was just as well. Nicky went off to the Ranui quilters in the morning, then after lunch we walked up to the grounds of BHB Primary school for the End of the Summer Blues music event. We had a wander round the stalls and a chat with the vicar and her husband before pitching our rug in a sunny spot. Even though we had overnight and morning rain, the grass was perfectly dry, indicative of the rain we still need to come after 42 consecutive dry days in February and March.

The music was OK, and we enjoyed the sun for awhile before popping home for some tea. We went back after 7 for the last act of the day who were very good, mainly playing hits from the 60's which included quite a bit of Beatles and Rolling Stones numbers. It was soon going dark and with the cloud free sky we were able to watch the Milky Way come out, and also had the joy of a shooting star. The stars were fantastic. The concert finished at 9pm so we came home and had some hot chocolate and settled down to watch "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" on DVD (the Daniel Craig one). We thought they had done a good job of adapting the book and even though they changed the ending a little, it was as good as the Swedish film of the book. I finished the day by putting all the clocks back one hour as our daylight savings finished last night. We are now 11 hours ahead of the UK.

I did the ironing this morning while Nicky was at church, and we had planned to go to the Auckland International Cultural Festival in Mt Roskill Memorial Park this afternoon, but the weather wasn't looking very promising and Nicky was fancying doing some sewing so we decided to stay home. Eventually the sun came out, and we were descended upon for Scrabble, so we still had a good day.

Back next week,
Take Care,
Rick
