Enjoying the Heritage
With having changed the clocks last weekend we have been enjoying lighter evenings this week, but the corresponding darker mornings haven't been as much fun. Nicky has had another busy week at work. The school holidays always change the mix of people using the library and lead to a different range of incidents. I had a couple of jobs at the beginning of the week, but the remainder has been quiet.
Nicky was at prison prayer group meeting on Monday, and was hosting the Wednesday evening life group as the usual hosts were away. I popped over to see Claire on Friday to deliver some post and pick up my drive, and went out for a drink in the evening.
The sunshine and showers weather pattern has continued this week, making laundry a more taxing affair. On the days when we have had sun and a good breeze, it hasn't taken too long to dry, even if it has been refreshed by the odd shower.
Our weekend has been dominated by the Heritage Festival. Yesterday we went to the Botany Library, which is in a shopping mall, for a film on Forgotten Dresses. This documentary highlighted the work of the staff and volunteers at the Howick Historical Village, as they work through cataloguing and storing the hundreds of garments and textiles which they have been given. Some have no provenance at all, and others have a full history. It was very interesting to see what they do.
We had got to Botany early so treated ourselves to a bit of brunch. After the film and a bit more of a wander round the mall we bought some mini Dunkin' Doughnuts to have when we got home, but they were a disappointment. We called at the Pah Homestead on the way home so that Nicky could see the picture which I am in, and we enjoyed our wander round the exhibitions.
Today we took a picnic lunch down to the Wynyard Quarter, even though the day was much cooler and duller than of late. We saw one of the old ferries, The Kestral, which a group are hoping to restore, and a display of classic yachts. We then popped into the Maritime Museum (again; it's free for us) to have a look at the recently updated immigrants section. The changes now include some personal histories with artefacts and make it even more relevant than before. We had tea and Scrabble once we got home, and plan a tellybox-based evening.
That's all for now,
Take care,
Rick
