First barbie of the season
We have finally had some proper summer weather this week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were just gorgeous, with hot sunshine and fluffy clouds. Kim, Sean, Shani and Tai came over for dinner on Monday, so we celebrated the good weather with our first BBQ of the season. We had a couple of salads and new potatoes with the steak and mushrooms in white wine sauce, followed by Derby Pie. This fitted in well with their commitments as Monday was Shani's first day of her week long drama course up at Blockhouse Bay Primary school.
On Tuesday I had to go and see a customer in Devonport so called on Letty who was fortuitously available for lunch, so we were able to have a good chat at the Narrow Neck beach café. Meanwhile, back in New Lynn on the way to work Nicky was knocked down by a car at the junction outside the library. Lucky the car wasn't going very fast so Nicky wasn't seriously hurt, but her right arm is grazed and badly bruised and her hip is also bruised. She went down to local medical centre at lunchtime to make sure nothing was broken.
Our 14 month old microwave died on Wednesday. Everything seems to be normal other than the food comes out as cold as it went in. So, I managed to find a repair guy just down the road in Hillsborough (still getting used to the fact that a Sheffield suburb is just down the road) who is going to try and get some or all of the repair done under warranty.
The weather was a bit cooler on Thursday, and we had quite a bit of rain on Friday, but I had a couple of Mac jobs to attend to so that was OK.
The weekend has been fine but cloudy, and has been pretty quiet. Claire and Ryan have moved to a larger flat in their block, so they now have a bedroom and a lounge, and better views. Nicky made them cake and scones and we took those over along with Claire's lounge chair on Saturday afternoon. In the evening we went up to the school to see that drama production which was the conclusion of Shani's course. It was bit of a slow burner but we ended up enjoying it very much. The performance was authored by the cast around the theme of "Home", with a special section to finish relating to a girl who broke her neck in a swimming accident. The age range of the cast was from 5 to 16, and of course it was one of the younger members who stole the show.
Today we had Jancis and a number of others back after church, and then Steve and Ros for Scrabble this afternoon, and then Claire came over this evening to join in the Skype conversation with Katharine and Ben, and their visitors Felicty, Reg and Jane. We had a good chat for over an hour.
That's all for now,
Take care, Rick
