The return of the farting asthmatic cat
The Mortein fly killer is back on! I put it back on while getting diner ready on Saturday as the fly's have returned with the good weather. For those of you who don't recall, last year we bought a Mortein fly spray with an automatic dispenser. It is a container with a battery that you put the fly spray aerosol into and it presses the plunger every 13 seconds, and to me, it sounds like a farting asthmatic cat.
We have had some lovely weather this week, even though some of the days have started very cloudy, by mid-morning we have had blazing sunshine. The roof temperature got up to 40°C yesterday and 43°C today. It was 28°C in the lounge at one point this afternoon, even though the ranch sliders had been open since breakfast.
I have had some Mac work and some modeling work so it has been a better week for me. Nicky has been as busy as ever though things have been a bit quieter towards the end of the week. Claire hasn't done any extra hours at Whitcoulls this week but that won't happen again between now and Christmas. Over the last 2 or 3 weeks she has watched her way through all 9 series of "As time goes by" on DVD borrowed from libraries all over Auckland.
On Wednesday Claire and I went to the bank to discuss her finances, as once she has paid for her next semester at University the account her funds are in will no longer be suitable. Then we went off to the cinema to see RED, which we both enjoyed.
On Saturday Nicky went off to the Cathedral in Parnell for an ordination service, or an upgrade to Glen 3.0 as I think of it. Steve, Ros and Ryan came over for an impromptu BBQ as S&R has been to see Harry Potter 7 and collected Claire from work. We had some meat left over from Netta's do (some of which S&R provided) and the weather was much better and we had a very enjoyable evening.
Today Nicky has had her first trip out with a church outreach group she has joined, which went well. I have spent most of the afternoon enjoying the sun on the patio while listening to "The incredible lightness of scones" on CD. It was really hot. I don't recall it being quite this warm this early in the summer before, which I think is interesting as my sister informs me that the snow they have had is the earliest fall in 17 years. Back in August the pundits were telling us we were in for a great summer. I wonder if this means the UK is in for a very cold winter.
Bye for now,
Rick
