Witches at Work

We started the week with a public holiday as Monday was Labour Day. The weather was sunny and Nicky and I had a quiet day at home. The weather has been sunny most of the week, with some cloud cover on occasions and the breeze has still been a little cool.

Mike Cox (who we met at the airport last week) and his two friends came over for dinner on Tuesday, along with Ryan. It was good to meet them and get some idea of Mike's plans. He is going to be here for 9 months, wants to work (seasonal stuff) and travel.

Things have improved a little for Nicky at work, though the fundamental issues still need to be resolved. Thursday was fun as the library was having some Halloween themed events, so all the staff dressed up as witches, and Nicky made some Pumpkin Pasties which went down very well. On Friday evening she went to a fair well do for Waitakere City Council - the new SuperCity starts tomorrow.

Claire sat two more exams this week which went OK. Her last one is next week. I have had a couple of bits of Mac work, one with a new customer.

Saturday was a busy day. Nicky joined the working bee at Church in the morning for cleaning (windows in her case) as well as participating in the Herat of The Bay initiative. This was set up by the CHurch in the Community Centre and its aim is to promote community buy doing things for others. So, Nicky offered some baking and I offered a one hour massage. Both have been taken up and we took up an offer of spring cleaning.

After lunch we drove over to St. Heliers to see Ruth as it was her 94th birthday. We took afternoon tea goodies and flowers and arrived just as Ruth was returning from being taken to lunch by an ex-neighbour. We had tea and cakes and chatted for awhile. Ruth was looking well but is not as bright as she was. On the way back Nicky and I had a walk along St. Heliers beach, and then picked Claire up from work. The beach was great and the views along Tamaki Drive were as good as ever. After dinner Nicky and I drove up to Parakai for a wallow in the hot pools.

Today has been much more restful. Stella came over to discuss the quilt that she and Nicky are making for Bea, Alison's daughter. Then Steve came over for Scrabble, and the weather helped us get three loads of washing dry. This evening Nicky and I have been for a walk, seen the sea, and watched the sun paint the clouds on gorgeous colours on our return, before poaching eggs for a late tea. It was very pleasant.

Bye for now,
Rick
