November Hols 2

We have been on holiday again this week. One of Nicky's friends from church had offered use of their family bach (holiday home) in Whangamata, but we didn't end up going because of still being in "health recovery mode". I am now almost back to normal, Nicky is still dealing with her sinusitis, and Claire is improving but still coughing. So, we have had the week at home again being leisurely.

The beginning of the week was not brilliant weather-wise, so we stayed home and read and jigsawed. A ray of mild excitement occurred on Monday when we had a delivery from China. Many months ago Nicky had been told at work about a website for ordering cheap glasses (spectacles). A couple of weeks ago we ordered a pair for her as the ones she bought from the opticians about a year ago had been in for repair for a second time and the lenses have also got scratched. We entered Nicky's prescription details on the website and chose a frame and sent the order off. We were both a little sceptical, especially about the frames with Nicky not being able to try them on before buying. However, we felt it was worth taking the risk because of the price. Now they have arrived that risk was justified, as the glasses look great, work very well for Nicky, and cost just under $77! Her optician's pair cost a bit over $1000 though that did include a pair of prescription sunglasses.

The weather started to improve on Wednesday so we have had sometime in the sun and have done a couple of trips. We have finally been to MOTAT (the Museum of Transport and Technology), which we all enjoyed. We had a picnic lunch in Lakeside Park on the way, surrounded by a wide variety of wild birds, including chickens. The museum was quiet with it not being the school holidays or a weekend, and we were able to see just about everything. It is not the most interactive place, but Claire and I enjoyed playing with the old telephone exchange equipment. They also have a Victorian village set up, which has the old church from Blockhouse Bay, the one which Nicky's father would have officiated in.

We also had chance to pop over to Devonport to see Letty who provided us with a wonderful lunch followed by a stroll down Cheltenham beach. We enjoyed choosing which of the beach properties which were for sale we would buy when we win the lottery.

Yesterday Nicky went to the Cathedral for an ordination service for Glenn from her church, Claire and I enjoyed seeing 2012 at the cinema, and in the evening we had a long with with Katharine via Skype.

Today Claire has been back at work, and Nicky and I had a walk in the sun delivering Christmas cards for church.

I have also managed to to a bit of work this week, and have a couple of calls arranged for next week. Nicky is back to full time work and Claire is starting her Christmas hours at Whitcoulls.

Finally, hot on the heals of Zoƫ and David's Amelia, we received news on Thursday that Kit Hanlon arrived in Germany, raising Felicity and Reg's grandchildren count yet again.

Have a good week,

Rick
