February Already

Our week started with a public holiday, as last Monday was Auckland Anniversary Day. With none of us at work it was chance to breakfast together for a change, so I hit on the idea of croissants, even though we didn't have any. Off I went, but neither bakers nor supermarket had any, so we had porridge and cereals.

Claire was on duty at the museum in the afternoon, and so Nicky and I got a lift into town with her. She dropped us at the bottom of Parnell Rise, and we walked down Beach Street and Quay Street to the harbour to see if we could glimpse anything of the regatta and general goings-on. We did see some ships in the distance, but mainly enjoyed just strolling in the sun (it was 27C in the shade and probably 10-12 degrees warmer in the sun), taking in the atmosphere and watching the street performers. We enjoyed listening to the music of a South American Indian group while having our picnic lunch, and watching a "bronze cowgirl statue" amuse children with her unexpected movements.

We walked back up to the museum and had a reviving cup of tea in the café while Claire finished her duty. We then went of to Paul and Jenny's, taking in the sights and sounds of Tamaki Drive on the way, to have dinner with visiting family in the form of Duncan McNought. We were joined by the Moss-Masons and Doug and Naomi for awhile. It was great way to end a lovely day.

Claire had a girly day on Wednesday with two of her friends - bowling, shopping, lunching and cinema. She did an extra shift at Whitcoulls on Thursday and the looked after Shani on Friday.

Nicky and I had normal working weeks. Nicky had her performance review this week which went pretty well. She has been to the doctors to discover that the tenderness in her left cheek in sinusitis, and is being treated accordingly.

Yesterday we had an unexpected but pleasant visit from a lady called Jancis from Loughborough who is staying with her cousin just down the road from us. Jancis and Nicky have a mutual friend in Isobel Smith back in Loughborough, and Jancis was looking forward to visiting The Church of our Saviour where Nicky worships.

Last night we had Jan and John Clearwater over for a barbecue and we had a very pleasant evening. I made a chocolate moose from a cook book which I was given at Christmas which turned out very well. The evening unfortunately had a sad ending as Steve rang us to say that Nicky's Uncle Geoff had died. It has been on the cards for the last few years as he has not been well. We are pleased we made the effort to visit Bar and Geoff in Guernsey the day before we left England for New Zealand.

Today has been warm and leisurely. Steve and Ros have just left after coming over for another Scrabble session.

Enjoy the pictures from last Monday,

Rick

Hi all, It's Gill in Loughborough. Sorry I have not written before, but I did not have your blog address. Toby had it in London and he kept on forgetting to send it to me. However enjoyed readin your "summer" weather news. It's terrible here with snow sufficient to stop travel. London was at a standstill today. Worst weather in two decades it said on the TV. You seem to be having a good time. What course are you studying Rick? Is it massage? Has Claire started at Uni now. Toby is loving Uni in London and is very poor at keeping in touch with his "oldies". I must try not to send him lots of messages, but it's hard. I don't suppose you will have the same problems with Claire. Daughters are much better at keeping in touch. I was over in Hereford this last weekend helping Sarah. She's still "nursing" her constituency and waiting for this Government to call an election. The credit problems are giving lots of problems for the country and the Lib Dems are hoping that Labour will give in and go to the country.

Anyway I hope that all is well. Much love from Gillie
