August 17th
The main event this week has been getting to work without getting soaked to the skin. It has been a very wet week, with some torrential downpours on occasion. According to the BBC weather forecast, it might stop raining this coming week.
Other than that work has been much the same for all of us. Nicky has done a Waitangi Treaty course on the last two Wednesday afternoons which she has found very interesting, and has disseminated pertinent factoids to Claire and I over dinner.
Saturday was fun packed for Claire and I. We went to an open day at Massey University in Albany. Claire has been considering applying there due to the sluggish nature of the response to her application from Auckland University, and I have to say we were both very impressed. The course has a good structure, the staff were interesting and slightly eccentric, and the campus is new with what I can only describe as interesting and cosy architecture. Getting there would mean Claire using the car, but there is plenty of free parking and she is already the main user, so an application will be submitted when the forms arrive.
During the open day, we were not only treated to a sample lecture, tour of the campus and free hot dog, but also a haka (though the hangi had been cancelled because of the weather).
Then on Saturday evening we had Nicola Walmsely and her boyfriend Will for dinner. Claire and Nicola were at primary school together but kept in touch throughout the secondary school years. Nicola and Will have been touring in NZ for three weeks and then fly to Fiji today (Sunday). It was good to see them and we had a lovely evening. I cooked (roast chicken and Yorkshire puddings) which was good as I don't seem to get chance to do much "proper" cooking these days.
Claire has been working today due to swapping duty to get yesterday off, and Nicky has been out much of the day at church and taking Tim Moss-Mason birthday present shopping, so I have had a bit piece which has been good.
Will post again next week - bye for now.
