September 30th

We have had an interesting mix of weather this week. Monday was wet and miserable. Tuesday had major thunder storms while we watched Grey's Anatomy on DVD. Things cleared on Wednesday and we had some sunshine, and since then it has been gorgeous - warm sunshine but cold in the shade and when there has been a breeze.

On Wednesday Claire and I sat and passed our driving theory tests. I will now get my full licence in the post, but Claire has to sit a practical exam because of not holding her full UK licence for two years. She has booked a lesson with a local instructor for next Friday so that he can take her through a mock test.

Nicky didn't get the job she applied for at UniTech, but one has come up at a Public Library in Blockhouse Bay so she has applied for that. I have had a couple of positive responses from art colleges which I have approached for modeling work, but nothing actually booked yet. I have also approached most the companies offering Mac support that I can find but have had no feedback yet.

I have started to investigate naturism here, had a visit to a club locally which was good, and a visit to a clothes optional hot pool was was nice and warm but quite a shabby venue.

We have made another big purchase this week: a vacuum cleaner. Life's exciting isn't it!We left our other one in England as we were not really allowed to bring it and it was getting a little old. We were able to see Clare Cottage for the first time on Saturday and it was in quite a mess. It improved when the previous tenant removed his last bits of rubbish but still needs a major clean, and Nicky is not convinced that the contract cleaner will be thorough enough - hence the purchase of the vacuum cleaner.

Bye for now,

Rick

I don't remember whether you were into rugby at all, but just in case you aren't, and have been avoiding all radio, TV, newspapers and the net over the last few days, a little tip: don't try out any French on your Kiwi friends and neighbours for a few weeks... No big reason, just a minor issue in Cardiff yesterday which may well filter through to you in the next day or two :-)
