Frosty paddock
Just in case you hadn’t noticed, August started yesterday. Officially, August is the last of the three months of winter, and usually our coldest. However, July wasn’t going out un-noticed. Tuesday morning presented us with a very frosty start. I took the photo below before the sun had properly risen. Some of our back garden grass was still a little crunchy underfoot mid-afternoon.
Our neighbour’s car, which is parked on his section but without cover, was covered in frost, as was his deck and the top part of his garden, which is shaded by his Tiny House. Our little Luna, parked under the car port, was completely frost free. I was again surprised what a difference the car port makes.
At the beginning of the week we had lovely sunny, crisp, winter days. The air was cold outside, but we were lovely and warm inside. Thursday was a little overcast and Friday was sunshine and showers, some quite heavy.
We have watched a very good documentary series this week about the terrorist bombings in London in July 2005. Some of the details were quite harrowing, but handled very well by the film makers. The main focus was on the Police investigation and the identification and capture of the perpetrators, some of which failed to blow themselves up.
At the quiz on Wednesday we came equal second with 92 points. This required a tie-breaker question to determine 3rd and 4th places. The question asked what for the total running time of two named films - nearest answer wins 3rd place. We were just 2 minutes shy of the actual answer and very pleased with our earned 3rd place. It made a difference having our team at full strength, when usually one or of us are away.
The wetter weather towards the end of the week encouraged us to start another jigsaw, which we are still working on. It might not get finished as there is quite a large amount of very uniform sky.
I had an amble into town yesterday morning and a coffee at Jolt Cafe. In the afternoon Nicky thoroughly enjoyed a concert by the Whanganui Community Choir, though St. Mary’s RC church wasn’t warm enough for jackets to be removed, despite there being 200 - 300 in the audience.
Last night, while watching the last in the series of Sandi Toksvig travelling along the French Riviera coastline, we discovered that Paula Radcliffe (English Olympic marathon runner) now lives in Monaco. Bit of a step up from Loughborough.
Take care, Rick and Nicky.
