Wiring

The week began with us having a couple of late starts, not rising until between 8 and 9am. The combination of winter weather and winter duvet seemed to be encouraging us to stay undercover. The weather has been largely dry so we have been enjoying clear skies and crisp air:

Our routine had to change on Wednesday morning as Nicky had a regular GP appointment at 8.30am. I suggested it would be easier not to bother going bed on Tuesday night than get up early on Wednesday, but Nicky didn’t warm to this idea. As so often happens when you know you have to get up for something, we had a fitful night and a pot of tea at 6am. The late starts of the previous days seemed like a distant memory…

However, after seeing the GP, collecting the prescription and going to the hospital for a blood test, we went to Mitre 10. We purchased wire and screws for the fence espalier wiring, and a plum (damson) tree which has been funded by a friend of mine in England as a house warming gift. The tree has been planted, and today I finished doing the espalier wiring which I had started on Thursday:

I also figured out an easier way of accessing the gutters on the eastern side of the house and so cleared them of leaves and debris on Tuesday.

Nicky was up at St. John’s cleaning the brass on Monday afternoon, and had a Friends of St. John’s meeting early evening. Tuesday was Life Group and on Thursday at the Aramoho Library she had one borrower. I’m not sure they actually borrowed anything, but they did talk a lot and stayed until the very last minute that the library was open.

We did a 500 piece world map jigsaw on Friday, which we completed just before midnight. It was the first world map that I have seen that has New Zealand on it twice - once at each side! Must be a locally produced item.

Last night we watched the film Parasite which won Best Foreign Language film at Cannes. It was good and unusual. Today Nicky woke aching, but improved with some paracetamol so went to church. We had an invitation from Jacqui next door to join her for Jazz at Cooper’s Bar this afternoon. I went with Jacqui, and Nicky joined us after church and lunch at the Brick House. We had an enjoyable afternoon. Nicky is about to make omelettes for tea, and the weather is thinking about giving us some rain.

Take care, Rick and Nicky.
