Cold & Hot
Winter has really shown it’s teeth this week on Thursday and Friday. Cold, very windy, and quite wet at times. We didn’t get any snow in Auckland which is always a bit of a disappointment, but the weekend has been gorgeous with clear skies, cool air and warm sunshine.
Nicky has had a very noisy week at the library with all the school holiday activities (apparently glue and glitter distribution to the would-be submariners went well), but other than that it hasn’t been too busy. I have had another good week for work but not quite as demanding as last week. Nicky has been home every evening, I have just been out once to my Deep & Meaningful discussion group.
Our evenings have been centred around the TV, watching DVD’s. We enjoyed “The Oranges”, a film about two families in an American suburb, and really enjoyed “What we did on our Holiday”, a British comedy with Rosamund Pike, David Tennant and Billy Connolly. It was written by Andy Hamilton et al who did the Outnumbered sitcom. As with that, three children are the centre of the piece, and again it looked as if they were not given lines, just direction as to which way the story needed to go and let then ad-lib. They were brilliant. Watch it if you get the chance. We have also been binge-watching Masters of Sex, the series about Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson, though series 3 and 4 take significant liberties with reality, inventing children for both of them who never existed. However, it’s better than most of the current offerings on terrestrial TV (though a series of Lewis is being repeated and therefore recorded).
I had a quiet pottering day at home yesterday doing laundry and enjoying the sunshine while Nicky was at quilting. She made some dangerous vegetable soup (it was the smoked paprika) for tea which had us turning the heating down.
Early this morning (7.30) I went off for a photoshoot in Grey Lynn, and afterwards had a trip to Mitre 10 with Dawn to get a new shower head for Nicky’s shower. After church and lunch Nicky went over to Stella’s to Scrabble. It’s crumpets and cheese for tea tonight, probably with some more tellybox.
Take care, Rick
