Magical Monday
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been the major theme for the week. Ros very kindly loaned us her copy, so Nicky started reading it on Sunday and finished it in the wee hours of Monday morning. I was less nocturnal in my reading so didn’t finish it until Tuesday afternoon. We have both enjoyed it and enjoyed discussing the plot themes and implications. Both out reserved copies arrived at the library later in the week, through the copy I ordered from the Book Depositary back in February is still on its way to us.
Nicky’s working week has been reasonable, with the library steady to busy. I have had a good week with a very long job on Monday which didn’t complete until Thursday, and a couple of other calls as well. We have both had evenings out, Nicky at life group and me at Deep and Meaningful and drinks on Friday.
We have had a mixed bag of DVD viewing this week. The WW2 series Home Fires was good, but a film called The Lobster was rubbish, even though the blurb on the box claimed “this years must-see”. The weather has been a bit drier which has made laundry a little easier.
Yesterday started wet but dried by late morning. We had a leisurely start with boiled eggs, followed by a bit of pottering before the Olympic Games open ceremony started. Pat, Shani and Tai called in on their way to Stanmore Bay which was good. After they had left Nicky suggested she nip up the road to procure hot pies for our lunch, and she was back in time to see the New Zealand team arrive in the stadium.
Stella and Steve came over for Scrabble late afternoon, and Stella stayed for tea before taking Nicky off to Ellerslie for a Heaven Bent performance of Gospel music which they both enjoyed very much.
Today has been largely clear and sunny, but with a cold southerly breeze. I did the ironing while Nicky was at church and then having a good long natter with Valda at The Block. This afternoon we walked down to our new cinema (well it opened last November but we hadn’t been before) to see the Jason Bourne film, which was quite good. I was interested and pleased to see the facility, which is operated by Readings, and really appreciated the $10 ticket price (the Event cinema at St. Lukes is $16.50).
We had soup and apricot pie when we got home (not both in the same dish) and are looking forward to an evening with the tellybox.
Take care, Rick
