Promenading
Autumn has continued to be summer-like this week with plenty of sunshine. The morning’s and evening’s can be a bit cool and some members of the community are complaining about the lack of rain, but I’m sure it’s on its way. We have had a little, and some fog.
At the beginning of the week the library was business as usual, but as the week progressed it has started to get quieter, as if the borrowers are already heading off to other libraries ready for the three week refurbishment closure which starts on the 16th. Nicky has had evenings out at prison prayer group and to have her hair done this week, and we both went up to church on Wednesday to be part of a group Skyping with an astrophysicist at Durham University. It was quite an interesting evening though my beliefs were obviously out of step with everybody else’s.
I have had a busy week, some of which has been due work, which has been good. I was out a couple of evenings too with Deep & Meaningful in town and drinkies up at The Block. The weather has helped with the laundry, and Nicky did most of the ironing this week (which I think is mainly an excuse to listen to more Harry Potter, as if she needed one!).
Nicky went up to church for breakfast yesterday morning as it is Mother’s Day weekend here. I stayed home with my boiled eggs, cooked by a new method I have discovered in a book called The Food Lab by J.Kenji López-Alt. The technique is to put the eggs straight from the fridge into boiling water and then take the pan off the heat (each egg needs 500ml of water). 7 minutes later, the eggs are just right, white cooked through, and yolk cooked but still runny. It is a fascinating book.
We had lunch in the sunshine on the Rattigan, but when the high cloud cleared it got a little warm !!!! and it’s May !!!! We went out for a walk along Westhaven Promenade which was lovely, even though the tide was out. Being able to walk under the harbour bridge is also quite a novel experience.
Very appropriate for this weekend |
Nicky cut the grass when we got back, and we spent the evening with the tellybox.
Today has been cooler and cloudier, especially this afternoon, but I still enjoyed a walk and swim at Karekare (well, Whatipu really) while Nicky was at church. Steve picked Nicky up on the way to Stella’s for Scrabble, and we are looking forward to MasterMind this evening.
Take care, Rick
