Another Kiwi tradition
Back to a greater sense of normality this week. Nicky has had a steady (as opposed to manic) week at the library, I have had some Mac work, and did a modelling job on Friday morning which was great. The weather has been better too, and as Nicky commented the other day, “it’s starting to smell like summer”. We have changed to the summer quilt, and the heaters have finally been stowed away.
Nicky was out Wednesday and Thursday evening with activities at church, and I was in Orewa on Thursday evening for a MeetUp group discussion.
Friday was a very nice and almost hot day, 26°, but finished with rain which lasted overnight. However, this meant that Saturday was also a good day. After breakfast I did some work admin while Nicky went down to Lynnmall to do some Christmas present shopping. She followed this with Scrabble at Stella’s and I did the ironing. The tellybox was the focus of our evening.
The weather didn’t start out as good today as we expected, but the cloud was clearing and it was warming up by the time Nicky got home from church, so we headed into town for the Famous Farmers Santa Parade down Queen Street. This is entering it’s 9th decade, and we have not been to it before, even though we have had good intentions in the past. We drove down to New Lynn and went in on the train (we caught one of the Santa Specials). We found a reasonable spot to watch from, already 5 deep with people, but that doubled by the time the parade was passing us. It was very colourful and lively, but we don’t feel the need to go every year.
We watched the end of a street performa’s show while we ate some fruit for lunch, then had a bit of a wander in search of more Christmas presents before going up to the Art Gallery to have a look at their shop, and enjoy the cafĂ©. We wandered back to the train station and were home in time for the TV news feeling that we had enjoyed the afternoon. Here are a few photos:
Take care, Rick
