Life, the universe, and cake.
Work has started to pick up again a little for me this week, so it has felt a bit more normal fitting the laundry and shopping around it. Nicky has has another steady week at the library, and on Wednesday went over to Henderson with a colleague for a PSA meeting. The pay deal which the union has negotiated is not ideal, but not bad under the present circumstances.
The weather has been dryer and we have had some sunny periods which have been great. Temperatures are dropping all the time so we are pleased to have the winter quilt on the bed and the heaters available.
Nicky had a good prison group meeting on Monday, but Te Reo was cancelled on Tuesday, just after I had finishing icing (well, Philly-cheesing actually) the almond and marmalade cake that we had defrosted. It was enjoyed by the library staff on Wednesday and there was enough left over for Nicky and I to have a couple of pieces. Euthanasia is very much in the news here at the moment and it was the topic for my MeetUp group discussion on Thursday evening in Orewa. We had a good conversation and I enjoyed a very nice burger.
We finished watching Garrow’s Law this week on Ros’s DVD’s. We have enjoyed all three series. On Friday night we watched Stormbreaker, based on the Anthony Horowitz book about a “junior James Bond”. It was fun and entertaining and augmented our cheese and wine very well.
We had a trip down to the Mall yesterday morning (unusual for us on a Saturday) to buy cards and gift wrappings. We then got stuck into the ironing (R) and mowing (N). The afternoon saw the auction of Dawn and Barrie’s old home next door to us. Even though the house is old and in need of some attention, it went for $1.41M because it is on a good-sized prime piece of land near “the village”. We don’t yet know, but assume it was a developer who bought it who will probably put a couple of houses on the site.
Nicky has brought home a couple of great coffee table books this week, one of which I had requested for purchase: Expanding Universe. It is a collection of photographs from the Hubble space telescope and it just stunning. Douglas Adams was right, space is big, really big.
This morning the weather was fine so I had a walk out at Karekare in my winter beach wear while Nicky was at church. She popped over to Henderson for Scrabble with Steve and Stella this afternoon, and we had soup and ale house bread for tea to keep away the winter chills.
That’s it for now,
Take care, Rick
