A crackle of crickets
It has been quite a busy 4-day working week with the run up to Easter. Nicky has been very busy at the library with school holidays starting, and I have had a couple of Mac jobs. Most of the week the weather has been sunshine and showers but the showers have held off for most of the Easter weekend, though we had a few more today.
Nicky had Monday evening at prison prayer group, and then her hair done by Doris on Tuesday evening. I was out at a MeetUp session in Orewa On Wednesday evening and then up to The Block for a very nice pint of porter on Thursday evening, so we don’t feel that we have seen much of each other all week.
Nicky started Good Friday at church, and I went out to Karekare for a very nice walk and swim. The sun was quite a bit warmer than it has been recently. Nicky was cutting the grass when I got back, and then after lunch we went down to Olympic Park and had a gentle and enjoyable stroll round the sculptures. The park was not at all busy.
We had arranged to pick Jancis up from the airport on Friday after her trip to Oz, so headed out there about six and did the taxi service thing. She didn’t feel like joining us for dinner but came round later for a cup of tea which was good.
Yesterday dawned clear and lovely. After breakfast we packed up a picnic and went over to Glendowie. While Nicky visited Ruth I went over to Ladies Bay for a swim which was very pleasant. We then put our lunch into a backpack, left the car at St Andrews, and using a book of walks that Nicky had got from the library had a couple of hours meandering round Churchill Park. We had a range of terrain, some bush and and some great views of town. There were loads of crickets crossing our path, but the thing which struck me as odd was that they always cross left-to-right in front of us. Admittedly we were virtual walking the perimeter of the park in a clockwise direction, but it made me wonder if the was some major cricket event happing in the middle of the park that they were all heading for (even though the World Cup has finished!).
We had a quiet evening, changed the clocks, and missed the 1am lunar eclipse.
While Nicky was a church this morning I washed the car. Jancis, Denis and Jan came back with her for morning tea and hot cross buns, and then Jancis joined us for lunch. Steve and Ros collected Nicky this afternoon on their way to Henderson for Scrabble, and I did the ironing. This evening will be tellyboxing again, but the series we are watching are nearing their ends.
With having changed the clocks autumn is now settling in, despite the very warm and sunny weekend. The mornings and evenings are quite cool while the middle of the day is still quite warm. Not bad for April.
Take care, Rick
