Just a few showers this week
It feels like it has been a busy week, but I don't actually have that much to report. Nicky has been hard at work in the library, I have had some Mac work on three days during the week, and spring is definitely trying to muscle in. The weather has been drier and warmer; the frequency of jumper wearing has diminished.
We were back at the audiologists on Tuesday to discuss what options Nicky has in terms of hearing aids. We were given quotes for three different models, one basic and two mid-range. The basic one is really a non-starter for her needs at work, so we have been getting used to just what they are going to cost, and thinking about how were are going the finance them. The government does make a contribution, but it is still going to be a major expense.
The new iron died this week. Well, it was still working, but after after couple of minutes of use it started tripping the RCD so something has gone wrong. I took it back to Noel Leeimg's on Friday and they hope to have a replacement available for me by Tuesday, so no ironing for a while. I feel like I have lost my right arm!
Claire called in on Friday, apparently to borrow some mayonnaise, but happened to stay for lunch and coffee too, so we had chance for a good chat. I have got some indoor sunbathing in on a couple of occasions. The sun is still at an angle where it floods into the living room, so I can open the ranch sliders have a few minutes of making vitamin D. The area of sunshine is getting noticeably smaller though as the sun is getting higher in the sky.
Yesterday was a quiet day at home day, doing laundry and reading, and having a stroll round the park. In the evening we went up to Parakai for a wallow in the hot pools and we were back on form again with a win in the raffle - a bottle of Appletiser.
Nicky was due to be at the StoryLines Festival in town today, volunteering as a minder for a couple of the authors, but when she got up this morning she was dizzy and nauseous, so decided not to go. Instead she has had a quiet day, with much sleeping and a couple of games of Scrabble. I have got the rest of the laundry washed and dried, and made more progress with "The Keeper of Lost Causes", a crime novel by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. It is very much in the same vein as Stig Larsson's trilogy, quite violent and gripping.
That's all for now,
Take care,
Rick
