An Entertaining Week
I can tell from my expanding waistline that we have been involved in quite an entertaining week. On Monday, the vicar (Sarah) and her mum (Glennis) came over for a BBQ. It had been a gorgeous day and it was a lovely way to end it. Nicky had made a coleslaw, I did a potato salad and a green salad, and barbied a few steaks. The visitors brought some great wine, and we finished off with a lemon yoghurt cake and some chocolate cake. Mike Wall was with us too and we had a grand evening.
Tuesday was much more humid and ended with rain, but the household was very cheerful as Claire and Ryan came over for pancakes. I made vegan ones with soy milk and no eggs. It took me a little while to get my eye in when cooking them because the soy milk gave the batter a different consistency, but they were very good. I put some on one side for Mike to make into a crepe suzette type dessert. Another good evening of company and food.
Wednesday's weather was quite dull. I had a very long walk due to following a new path which didn't come out where I expected and gave much a much longer walk home. Thursday was wet so I had a quiet day at home. Mike went into town to do some exploring and investigating, before going off to Hamilton on Friday.
The weather was better on Friday, so I got some laundry done before spending the afternoon cooking. Becky had invited "the family" round for a welcome do for her folks, Tim and Netta, who arrived just as Wednesday morning started. I made a large bacon and egg pie, and Portuguese custard tarts. I think both turned out OK as there were no left-overs to bring home.
I have only had one short Mac job this week, but Nicky has been as busy as ever at the Library. The Library is now adjacent to a large building site as the old bus station and some retail areas have been bulldozed and a new major building is being constructed. This will have a medical centre, shops and multi-story car park.
The weekend has been sunny and quiet. Lots of laundry and ironing, Scrabble with Steve yesterday, and a wallow in the hot pools in Parakai in the evening. I have enjoyed sunbathing this afternoon and Nicky has been dying fabric for my next waistcoat. She finished my first one yesterday and it looks fantastic. I will try and post some pictures when I get an opportunity to wear it.
Bye for now,
Rick
